Facing the onslaught of AAP’s latest poster campaign on his alleged understanding with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh today tried to come out clean by claiming that an adverse verdict in the Amritsar Improvement Trust case could have benefited the Congress.

“Just because I have been exonerated as investigations were done on the directions of the Supreme Court, people are talking about my collusion with the Badals,” he said.

Talking to The Tribune on board a refurbished mini-bus meant to be used in the 2007 elections, Amarinder said it his statement regarding putting the Badals behind the bars was not election rhetoric.

Asked why the Badals were let off in the disproportionate assets case that fuelled public perception about their tactic understanding, the former CM said 31 witnesses in the case turned hostile as the Badals on coming to power forced them to resile. “Otherwise, if you have a strong case, law will prevail. If you have a concocted case, the law will still prevail,” he said.

On public perception over the alleged common interests of certain Akali and Congress leaders in the liquor and sand businesses, the PPCC chief said business and politics should not be mixed. “The government should be concerned about revenue not those who are part of the consortium bidding for the mining or liquor contract, irrespective of their political affiliation.”

‘Sidhu & co Can’t bypass me on tie-up’

• Amarinder said a proposal to induct Awaaz-e-Punjab leaders had to be routed through him. “The reports that they are talking with the top leadership by bypassing the PPCC president do not hold ground. I can induct the Bains brothers. But in case of Pargat Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the decision has to be taken by the Congress president but through me,” he said.

Next road show soon

• The Kisan Rath Yatra was flagged off by widows of nine farmers, who reportedly committed suicide over rising debt. Among the widows was Harbans Kaur, whose husband Sohan Singh committed suicide a few days ago over a debt of Rs 4 lakh. After this yatra, the Congress will launch another road show to woo unemployed youth.

BJP finds no mention in govt’s publicity booklet

A section of BJP leaders have reportedly taken exception to the 109-page government booklet titled “Nine Years of Development in Punjab”, which is being circulated in the state, as it has no mention of the party or any of its leaders.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal are the only two leaders shown as the “mascots of development” in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears in three stamp-sized pictures on an inside page of thebooklet.

Barring two pages of messages from leaders, the document has more of pictorial details inside. The document attempts to highlight government achievements in diverse fields.

Other leaders who find place in the booklet included Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats Sikander Singh Maluka and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and state Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia.

A senior leader of the party said: “The BJP’s role in the two successive state governments is being overlooked, but our party leaders are not speaking openly against it.” BJP legislature party leader Chunni Lal Bhagat said: “The matter is related to the party’s stand, so it is for party president Vijay Sampla to reply.” Former state BJP chief Kamla Sharma too said: “Let party chief Sampla speak on the issue.”

Sampla said: “The booklets highlight the progress of the state, so it will be shown in the name of the CM and the Deputy CM. When we talk about the country’s growth, the Prime Minister takes the credit. Similarly, in a state, it will be the CM.”

Mocks AAP charge

• Chandigarh: Punjab BJP chief Vijay Sampla on Monday ridiculed state AAP convener Gurpreet Singh Waraich’s accusation that the SAD-BJP and the Congress had made a secret pact ahead of the Assembly poll. “Just can’t stop laughing over his ridiculous statement and at the same time feel sorry for him,” Sampla said here. “Gurpreet has forgotten that when AAP leaders sat on a similar dharna in front of the CM’s residence, the Chief Minister not only arranged refreshments but also invited them home by plying special buses,” he said. Cong turns heat on SAD, sets ‘chitta Ravana’ ablaze

Congress workers led by senior party leaders today took to the streets across the state to burn effigies of “chitta Ravana” as part of the party’s anti-drug drive.

Despite reports of likely police attempts to thwart their plans the activists came out in large numbers to set the effigies on fire, with party president Capt Amarinder Singh witnessing the event at Baghapurana in Moga.

Party leaders Rana Gurjit, Kewal Singh and Lal Singh were among those who led the workers to set the effigies ablaze in their respective segments.

Amarinder, who was in Moga district as part of his Kisan Yatra that was launched from Chandigarh this morning, was present on the occasion of the slaying of the “Badal and Majithia effigies in the form of chitta Ravana” in Baghapurana.

Reports of burning of effigies also poured in from Muktsar, Fazilka, Abohar and Jalandhar districts. A clarion call, given by Amarinder yesterday, had energised the party workers to burn the effigies in all Assembly segments of the state. Amarinder has planned to burn similar effigies in Ludhiana to coincide with Tuesday’s visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chhotepur to contest from Gurdaspur?

Aapna Punjab Party (APP) president Sucha Singh Chhotepur is likely to contest the Assembly elections from the Gurdaspur seat, according to sources.

Chhotepur neither confirmed nor denied the development, but his son, Ajaypal Singh, said the decision had been taken by his father after month-long deliberations with his supporters.

Chhotepur had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur on the AAP ticket. He bagged 1.78 lakh votes to finish third, securing a lead of 28,000 votes from this Assembly constituency. “He has a sizeable vote bank in the town because of his long-time association with various farmers’ and employees unions,” an APP leader said.

An announcement of Chhotepur’s candidature is expected to be made after AAP declares it candidates from all nine seats under the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency. So far, the party has named candidates from Dinanagar, Bhoa, Sujanpur, Fatehgarh Churian and Dera Baba Nanak seats.

Meanwhile, Joginder Chhina, AAP candidate from Dinanagar, held a road show today. He led a cavalcade of 130-odd cars in the constituency. Last week, a similar event was organised by GS Kushalpur, AAP candidate from Dera Baba Nanak.

Cong burns effigy of ‘Chitta Ravan’

Leaders and workers of the district Congress committee (rural and city) today burnt the effigy of ‘Chitta Ravan’ at the Fire Brigade chowk here.

They claimed that they had specially burnt the ‘Chitta Ravan’ as during the tenure of the Badal government, ‘chitta’ destroyed youths of the state.

The workers also raised slogans against Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during the protest.

“With this protest, we have given a message to the public that after coming to power, our first work would be eradicating drugs from the state,” they claimed.

While addressing the workers, Congress leaders said at present, the state was highly affected by drugs and no other state would be ahead of Punjab in drug consumption, especially smuggling of chitta, which had destroyed the life of youths and also broken the backbone of the common man economically.

They claimed that the youths of Punjab play a big role in the Army and the police. But today, due to drugs the number of Punjabi youths in the Army and the police was drastically going down. Punjab, which was the most prosperous state, was now ahead of all in drug consumption.

They appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and assured that after coming to power in 2017, the Congress government would eradicate drugs from its roots.

MLA Ajaib Singh Bhatti, former minister Harmander Singh Jassi, PPCC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Chahal were among those others who addressed the gathering.

Other leaders who were present include Darshan Singh Jeeda, Satpal Bhateja, Tehal Singh Sandhu, Pawan Mani, Rupinder Bindra.

Congress up in arms, burns ‘Chitta Ravana’ effigies

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ludhiana, the Congress party today burnt effigies of ‘Chitta Ravana’ at three different places in the city.

This was done as a part of the state-wise plan after Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Chief captain Amarinder Singh asked its leaders to burn ‘Chitta Ravana ‘ in all the 117 assembly constituencies on Monday.

While ‘Chitta Ravana’ effigy was burnt by Congress workers led by former MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment Jagbir Brar and district president Rajinder Beri near court complex, another effigy was burnt by former Cabinet Minister Avtar Henry at the Doaba Chowk. In Guru Ravidas Chowk, an effigy was burnt by councillor Pawan Kumar.

The Congress workers had put up a lot of pomp and show during all the three events. Clad in all white, small packets marked with cocaine, ‘chitta’, bhuki and liquor were pinned on to the effigies and faces of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal along with Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia were pasted on the effigies.

Later, Congress workers were seen holding this effigies by their ‘ears’ and dragging them to the agitation site from the vehicles. Also, slogans slamming the state government were heard on the agitation site.

Even though the Congress party did not target any of the BJP leaders in the ‘Chitta Ravana’ issue and only Akali leaders were seen getting mocked. The effigies were burnt by Avtaar Henry also bore faces of BJP MLA KD Bhandari.

Meanwhile, the city police made ample security arrangements at the dharna sites. CCTV van was seen moving at all the places to record the minutest details of the agitation. The police were seen marching along with the protestors and checking the presence of any unwanted person at the agitation site.

Meanwhile, Congress activists burnt the effigies in Phagwara also. PPCC general secretary Balbir Raja Sodhi with ticket seeker Balbir Rani Sodhi held a demonstration and burnt effigy of Chitta Rawan near the local Sugar Mills Chowk, former minister Joginder Singh Maan at Goal Chowk and ticket seeker Jarnail Nangal near Goal Chowk.

ਕਰਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਗਏ 9 ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਧਵਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਯਾਤਰਾ (ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ) ਨੂੰ ਝੰਡੀ ਦਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਰਵਾਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 22 ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਾਜੋਮਾਜਰਾ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਹਰਬੰਸ ਕੌਰ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸੀ।  ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਉਣ ’ਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।  ਵਿਧਵਾ ਹਰਬੰਸ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਬਾਦਲ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਿੱਘੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ’ਚ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦਾ ਟਾਵਰ ਲਾ ਕਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵਰਤਣ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵਾਂਝੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਉਣ ’ਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਧੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।  ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਬਾਦਲਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੇਬਾਂ ਭਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਕੈਪਟਨ ਦੇ ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਬੱਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਹਾਈਡਰੌਲਿਕ ਮੰਚ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਨਗੇ। ‘ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਕੁਰਕੀ ਖ਼ਤਮ, ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਰਕਮ’ ਨਾਅਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਉਂਦੀ ਹਾਈਟੈੱਕ ਬੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਦਿੱਖ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ 500 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਫ਼ਰੀਦਕੋਟ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ, ਬਠਿੰਡਾ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਕਤਸਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਜਲਾਲਾਬਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਬਤਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਸਭਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਡੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ।  ਕੈਪਟਨ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਝੰਡੀ ਦਿਖਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਘਨੌਰ ਖੁਰਦ ਦੇ ਖ਼ੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਕਰ ਗਏ ਜਗਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਮਨਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਚੰਗਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਘਨੌਰ ਖੁਰਦ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਲਖਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਵਾ ਰਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਇਸੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਜਸਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ, ਬਮਾਲ ਦੀ ਅਮਰ ਕੌਰ, ਕੱਕੜਵਾਲ ਦੀ ਜਸਵੰਤ ਕੌਰ,  ਬਲਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਰਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਲਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਕੈਪਟਨ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਰਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਉਪਰ ਲਕੀਰ ਫੇਰ ਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰਨਗੇ।

ਵਾਅਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਾਰ

ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਨੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਨੇ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਅਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਡਾ. ਦਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੀਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ  ‘ਕਿਸਾਨ ਯਾਤਰਾ’ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੀਂ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਮੰਗਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਯੂਪੀਏ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ 2008 ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਐਲਾਨੀ 70 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਸ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਦਾ  ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ 70 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਜਦਕਿ ਨਿਕਲੀ 52 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਸੀ।

ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਰਾਵਣ ਸਾੜਨ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਐਲਾਨ ਤਹਿਤ ਅੱਜ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਮੀ ਅਨੁਸੂਚਿਤ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਉਪ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਡਾ. ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜੁਗਲ ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਟੇਲਰ ਰੋਡ ’ਤੇ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਫੂਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਰਸਾ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਾਟਕ ਦਾ ਮੰਚਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਤੇ ਉਪ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਾਅਰੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।ਇਸੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਜਨਰਲ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਤਰਸੇਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਡੀਸੀ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਰੋਡ ’ਤੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਸਾੜਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ 2 ਦਰਜਨ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਉਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਅਕਾਲੀ-ਭਾਜਪਾ ਗੱਠਜੋੜ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਧ ਧੋਤਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰਨ ’ਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਜਲੰਧਰ (ਨਿੱਜੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ): ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ‘ਚਿੱਟਾ ਰਾਵਣ’ ਫੂਕਣ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸੱਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਜ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਥਾਵਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਰੂਪੀ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਰਾਵਣ ਫੂਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਪੁਤਲੇ ’ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ, ਉਪ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਤੇ ਬਿਕਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਸਵੀਰਾਂ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ।
ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਦਿਹਾਤੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜਗਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਰਾੜ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਬੇਰੀ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਫੂਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉੱਤਰੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹੈਨਰੀ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਦੋਆਬਾ ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਫੂਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਕੇ.ਡੀ. ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਵੀ ਪੁਤਲੇ ’ਤੇ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦਿਖਾਵੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੋਤਲਾਂ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਨ। ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਇਸ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਚੱਲਦਿਆਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਪੱਧਰ ’ਤੇ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਤਾਇਨਾਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
ਟਾਂਡਾ (ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ): ਬਲਾਕ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਟਾਂਡਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਥੇ ਸਿਵਲ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੂਬਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਸਾੜਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਮੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿਲਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਵਰਕਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੂਬਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੂਬਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਾਅਰੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਨਗਰ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਟਾਂਡਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਹਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਸੈਣੀ, ਹਰਦੀਪ ਸਾਬੀ, ਰਵਿੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੋਰਾ, ਗੁਰਸੇਵਕ ਮਾਰਸ਼ਲ, ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਲ ਵੇਦ, ਮਹਾਂਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਸੀਤੀ, ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਬਿੱਟੂ, ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿੱਲੂ ਸਮੇਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਵਰਕਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
ਫਤਿਹਗੜ੍ਹ ਚੂੜੀਆਂ (ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ): ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਥੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਬੱਸ ਅੱਡੇ ’ਤੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਸਾੜਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਬਾਜਵਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ  ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਉਣ ’ਤੇ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਥੈਟਿਕ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਬਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋਟਲਾ ਬਾਮਾਂ, ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿੰਦੂ, ਸਰਪੰਚ ਭਾਗ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕੁਲਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਲਾਲੀ, ਸੁਰੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬੱਬਲੂ, ਦਵਿੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੱਘਾ, ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਜੋਸਫ ਤੇ ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਲੱਕੀ ਆਦਿ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਆਗੂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।
ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ (ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ): ਅੱਜ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਫੂਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀਆਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਨਾਅਰੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੋਸ ਮਾਰਚ ਕੱਢਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਬਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਾਹੜਾ, ਹਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਬੇਦੀ, ਬਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਾਹੜਾ, ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਸਤਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੁੰਗ, ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਭਾਸਕਰ, ਜਗੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਮਹਾਂਦੇਵ, ਦਰਬਾਰੀ ਲਾਲ, ਰਛਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧਵਾਂ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਪਾਲ, ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਿੰਘ, ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬੋਪਾਰਾਏ ਆਦਿ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।
ਬਲਾਚੌਰ (ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ): ਇੱਥੇ ਸੰਤੋਸ਼ੀ ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਰਾਵਣ ਫੂਕਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸਤਵੀਰ ਸਿਮਘ ਪੱਲੀ ਝਿੱਕੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਿ ਸੂਬਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿ ’ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਸੌਦਾਗਰ ਸ਼ਰੇਆਮ ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਪਲਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਨ ’ਤੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਦੇ  ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਟਿਕਟ ਦੇ ਦਾਅਵੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਲ ਮੰਗੂਪੁਰ, ਹਲਕਾ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਰਾਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਲੱਕੀ, ਸੰਤੋਸ਼ ਕਟਾਰੀਆ, ਸੰਦੀਪ ਭਾਟੀਆ, ਡਾ. ਰਾਜਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ, ਅਸ਼ੋਕ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨਾਨੋਵਾਲ ਤੇ ਜਸਵਿੰਦਰ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਨੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ

ਮੋਗਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ।

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਦੀ ‘ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਕੁਰਕੀ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਰਕਮ’ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਦਾ ਇਥੇ ਮੋਗਾ-ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਕਸਬਾ ਅਜੀਤਵਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਰਕੁਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਰਵਾਂ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਤੇ ਵਰਕਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਾਘਾਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਚੌਕ ਵਿੱਚ  ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਦਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਸਾੜਨ ਬਾਅਦ ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਕੱਢਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤਿੱਖੇ ਸ਼ਬਦੀ ਹਮਲੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ਤੇ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਟੀ ਮੱਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਖਾ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ 117 ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ’ (ਨਸ਼ੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਦੇ ਪੁਤਲੇ ਸਾੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ‘ਚਿੱਟੇ ਰਾਵਣ‘ (ਨਸ਼ੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਨੂੰ ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਤਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦਮ ਲੈਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਬਾਦਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਭਾਗ ਉਖਾੜਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਸਹਿਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਬਣਾਏ ਕਥਿਤ ਝੂਠੇ ਕੇਸ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਏ ਜਾਣ ’ਤੇ ਇਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਾਝਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ  ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਦ ਸੁਣਿਆ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਹੇਠ ਦਬਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ‘ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਕੁਰਕੀ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਰਕਮ’ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਸਿਰ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ  ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਵਰਕਰ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਹੇਠਲਾ ਰਕਬਾ ਘਟਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਦਲਦਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਸੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਦੱਖਣ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਮਾਨਸਾ, ਸਰਦੂਲਗੜ੍ਹ ਆਦਿ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਕਿਸਾਨ-ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਖ਼ੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਦਾ ਬੋਝ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
 ਕੋਟਕਪੂਰਾ(ਨਿੱਜੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ ): ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅੱਜ ਕੋਟਕਪੂਰਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਣਾ ਮੰਡੀ ‘ਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਕਾਫ਼ਲੇ ਸਮੇਤ ਪੁੱਜੇ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੰਡੀ ਵਿਚ ਝੋਨੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਢੇਰੀਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਡੀ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ। ਉਪੰਰਤ ਇਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਬੱਸ ‘ਤੇ ਖੜ ਕੇ ਭਰਵੇਂ ਜਨਤਕ ਇਕੱਠ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਨ ‘ਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ, ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ, ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਹੱਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ। ਆਪਣੇ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ‘ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸੂਬੇ ‘ਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਨ ‘ਤੇ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ‘ਚ ਲਿਪਤ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੱਕਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ, ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਜ਼ੇ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

CHANDIGARH: Political parties in Punjab are courting farmers for a poll harvest.

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal announced debt waiver for farmers in a manifesto released at Baghapurana rally last month, Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday started his three-day kisan yatra during the paddy procurement season in a specially designed air-conditioned bus equipped with a hydraulic platform. The bus was flagged off by widows of farm suicide victims in Chandigarh.On the first day of his roadshow, Amarinder visited grain markets in Moga and Faridkot districts where he met farmers. “Inha Baadlan ne tuhada jhona nahin chakeya, par main inhan nu chakkanga (Badals didn’t lift your paddy, I will teach them a lesson),” Amarinder said to farmers at the Baghapurana mandi in Moga. Farmers also complained of delay in procurement and quality of sprays.

Later at Kotkapura, the state Congress chief said agriculture minister Tota Singh, who was involved in selling “spurious” fertilisers to cotton farmers, and other Akali leaders, including Kotkapura MLA Mantar Brar, would be brought to justice once the Congress comes to power. “I will teach Badals a lesson for failing to procure paddy from mandis on time and nobody involved in harassing or cheating farmers would be spared,” he said.

He announced to launch an investigation into “multiple scams — from drugs to the bus permit scam, and sand smuggling and liquor mafia — that the Badals are involved in”, following due process of law.

Amarinder reiterated his commitment to waive farmers’ loans and also assured them of prompt redress of their problems. He also met the farmers at Faridkot.

The second day of the road show will commence from Faridkot on Tuesday, from where he will leave for Ludhiana to burn ‘chitta’ Ravan at the spot where Congress workers were “attacked” by Youth Akali Dal activists on Dussehra eve.

The yatra will cover 500km in Faridkot, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Muktsar, Jalalabad and Ferozepur.

It includes visits to mandis, the promise of unconditional debt-waiver, and also of jobs to needy families. In an interview to HT on the first day of the road show on Monday, Amarinder says morale of Congress workers is “very high” and “no one can browbeat them”. Excerpts: You have launched a road show three months before the elections are due. Isn’t it too early? When I was CM, it was said that ‘he only uses helicopters’. The only reason I travelled by air was to save time. Now, I am covering all of Punjab by road. The campaign is going to build up from now, but we will peak at the right time, in January. This road show is part of our ‘karza-kurki khatam, fasal ki poori rakam’ (no more debt, and full payment for crops) programme for farmers. During my visit to border areas, I saw paddy selling below the MSP. Farmers have suffered every procurement season under this government. That never happened when I was CM. You are competing with the Badals and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in populism. What about the state’s financial condition and court rulings? We are estimating the expense of every promise. It will all be there in the manifesto. The debt of Punjab farmers is `37,000 crore, which we have promised to waive. If the farmer is dying, how will he pay the labour? Thus, a vicious cycle continues. As for the promise of one job per family, not all 55 lakh families of Punjab need jobs. We will ensure jobs on priority to those who need them... (And) I am talking about reservation for the economically weaker sections within the general category. Courts cannot stop us from creating that quota. In trying to be more aggressive to beat the AAP at its game, are you returning to your ‘khoonda’ politics? Look at what is happening in Punjab! The youth have no jobs, the farmers are committing suicides, and mafias rule every business. When I am unhappy about everything happening in the state, won’t I be aggressive? I am also aggressive towards the AAP... (towards) the way they are molesting women and befooling people of Punjab. I am not carrying the khoonda (the stick) with me this time, but I am saying the same things. There is a perception that a victory for the Congress, rather than the AAP, in Punjab suits the SAD-BJP. How will you tackle the propaganda that you and the Badals are together? I consider Badal (CM Parkash Singh Badal) as my biggest enemy. Look at the way he has treated me and how I have treated him. Just because the vigilance bureau has filed a closure report in the Amritsar Improvement Trust case after eight-and-a-half years, they are calling it a tacit understanding. The Ludhiana City Centre case is on for the last nine-and-a-half years. Saini (former state police chief Sumedh Singh Saini) was the one who tried to frame me as I never made him number one (in the police). I had put the Badals behind bars after investigation. I can’t help it if all the witnesses turned hostile. I will again put the Badals in jail, as every mafia in the state is running with their share and patronage. With all parties resorting to aggression, do you think the polls are going to be violent? Punjab polls are going to be violent. Whenever the Akalis are on a downswing, they try to create trouble. They are going to polarise and intimidate people. That’s why they have these 52 gangs! Their own DGP, Suresh Arora, says that’s the number of gangs in Punjab. Why don’t they lock them up? What we want from the Election Commission is deployment of more central forces. Students Organisation of India (SOI) and Youth Akali Dal (YAD) chaps will be let loose at polling booths. What was their business to beat up Congress workers burning a ‘chitta’ Ravan in Ludhiana? The police cannot be fair as every police station in an assembly segment reports to the Akali MLA or halqa in-charge. We will revert to the old system. The morale of the Congress workers is very high. If the Akalis think they can browbeat us, they are highly mistaken. Aren’t you disappointed that you are working like never before and yet the party is not announcing you as the CM candidate? What more can I ask for? They have appointed me as the state party chief; the entire campaign is centred around me; and my pictures are on the boards across the state; even across the Ravi in a border village, where the BSF is posted. Has the delay in announcement not allowed former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu to put the condition that he will ally with your party only if you are not leading it? It is the media that has made Sidhu some sort of a demigod. He is just another clown like (Punjab AAP convener) Gurpreet Ghuggi and (AAP MP) Bhagwant Mann. They are non-entities. Will the Congress president and vicepresident not inform the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee if they are talking to Sidhu? Who are Sidhu, the Bains brothers and this hockey player (Pargat Singh) to dictate terms to a party like Congress? There will be no ‘understanding’ with this group of four. They can join the Congress unconditionally... There are two jokers already in the AAP. That Ghuggi has the mind of a ghuggi (bird), and Mann remains sloshed. If the Awaaz-e-Punjab group joins the Congress, will you set aside the ‘one family, one ticket’ rule for the Bains brothers? What about others? The rule does not apply to the Bains brothers as they are both sitting MLAs. In case of other MLAs, it is up to them to decide who they want to field. For instance, in Qadian, the Bajwa family has to decide whether they want to field Fateh Jang Bajwa or Charanjit Bajwa. Same is the case for Lal Singh — whether he wants to contest or wants his son to be given the ticket.
