Chandumajra promotes son, but rules out dynastic politics in SAD

ATIALA: Anandpur sahib member of Parliament (MP) and senior Akali leader Prem Singh Chandumajra on Monday claimed that there was no dynastic politics in the party, even as he held a show of strength in areas falling under the Sanaur assembly segment to boost the poll prospectus of his son Harinder Pal Chandumajra, who was recently appointed the halqa (constituency) in-charge.His move to address workers’ meeting in Bahadurgarh and Davigarh along with his son and loyalists is also seen as an attempt to curb possible dissidence in the constituency ahead of the assembly elections after the party shunted out Tejinder Singh Sandhu to accommodate Chandumajra’s 34-year-old son.

Sandhu (55), son of old party guard in the Patiala region late Jasdev Singh Sandhu, has yet not reacted to latest political development as he is said to be out of the country. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2012 assembly elections from Sanaur and was the party’s halqa in-charge since then.“I won my first assembly election from this area (earlier Dakala) in 1985 and people here will again repose their faith on us,” he added.

All senior party leaders from the region, including cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra, were present when the father-son duo paid obeisance at Patiala’s Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib before addressing the media.

He said there was no opposition within the party as the decision was taken on merit. The party held a thorough survey on the ground before appointing his son. “It was also proved in several meetings on Monday when people in large number gave us rousing welcome,” added Chandumajra.

In a candid manner, he also did not leave the opportunity to share his proximity with the constituency saying that he remained connected with area residents throughout his political life, even as he moved out from here years ago.

He also ruled out the impact of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab politics saying that its convener Arvind Kejirwal has exposed himself in Delhi where people were crying for water and power shortage.

Endorsing the party decision, Rakhra said SAD would field more young faces in time to come. Both the appointments, including that of Satbir Singh Khatra as the in-charge of the Patiala rural assembly segment, was a step in this direction, he added

Asked for comments on the growing discontentment in the Tohra family after removal of Kuldeep Kaur, daughter of former Akali stalwart late Gurcharan Singh Tohra to accommodate Khatra, Chandumajra, who is also party’s general secretary, said there was no disrespect to Tohra’s legacy. “Gurcharan Singh Tohra did not belong to a single family. He was Panth rattan and entire Sikh community was his family,” he added.

Take campaign to villages, submit resolutions to district admn

Jalandhar, June 20

Taking its protest against the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal to villages, the SAD leadership has begun taking resolutions from village panchayats across the state, which will be submitted to the President and the Prime Minister.

Kickstarting the campaign in Doaba here today, the SAD leaders submitted 889 resolutions to Jalandhar DC KK Yadav.

Even as the Supreme Court verdict is awaited on the issue, SAD leaders have been holding meetings with sarpanches in various districts. Cabinet Minister Ajit Singh Kohar recently held a meeting with about 1,000 sarpanches in Jalandhar.

Hundreds of resolutions from Bathinda and Muktsar have already been submitted to the respective district administration. The campaign will continue across other districts of the state.

The SAD leaders said the resolutions primarily demanded the scrapping of the canal.

CPS Gurpartap Singh Wadala said, “We hope that the Supreme Court will take note of the state farmers’ plight and decide in our favour.”

The state Assembly had moved a Bill in March, denotifying the land acquired for the canal and returning it to the owners for free.

Justice sought for state

Ropar: Akali leaders, accompanied by sarpanches from the district, submitted a memorandum addressed to the PM and the President here today. The memorandum, seeking justice for Punjab in the SYL case, was handed over to naib tehsildar Surinder Kumar.

Earlier, local MLA and Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema addressed a gathering at Gurdwara Bhattha Sahib. He condemned successive Congress governments at the Centre for compromising the interests of the state.

Capt hits back at Jaitley

PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for behaving like the ‘spokesman’ of the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department and not as their boss.

On Jaitley’s claims that he had located Amarinder’s illegal properties abroad, the latter asked him to furnish the address and the proof of ownership and not rely on documents which someone stole from a Swiss bank and sold to the French Government, which, in turn, gave the same to the Centre. — TNS

Cong wing collects farmers’ blood, will present it to PM

The Kisan and Khet Mazdoor Cell of the state Congress stated that it would hand over a bag containing blood of family members of suicide victims to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Chandigarh for the Yoga Day celebrations.

Inderjit Singh Zira, president of the Cell, said, “People of Punjab want to tell the PM that they need urgent solution to the agrarian crisis and not yoga. Farmers are committing suicides but the Centre is unmoved.”

To register their protest, a group of Congress leaders led by Zira will move towards the Punjab Raj Bhawan, where the PM would be staying, before moving to the Capitol Complex. Zira dared Modi to waive of farmers’ loan of Rs 75,000 crore and implement the suggestions of the Swaminathan report before landing in Chandigarh or else they would greet him with blood given by families of suicide victims.

“The BJP government is not serious about the Punjab agrarian crisis and instead is promoting the RSS agenda through yoga. Even, Arun Jaitley during his recent visit, failed to respond to the concern of the state,” he said.

Fatehgarh Sahib: The president of Farmers Association of Punjab Congress Committee, Inderjeet Singh Zira, in Fatehgarh Sahib today lashed out at the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for its anti-farmer policies. Zira said the Manmohan Singh government had given loans to farmers on seven per cent interest, out of which three per cent interest was to be borne by the government. However, after the Modi-led government came to power, it stopped the scheme. Zira was speaking to the media after a meeting of the Congress Cell of farmers and labourers held under the leadership of local Congress MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra.

72 farmers ended lives in 43 days: BKU

As many as 72 farmers have committed suicide in 43 days from April 1 to May 13 in Punjab and if the government will not take the plight of farmers seriously, things will get worse. This was stated by Bharatiya Kisan Union, Punjab, president Balbir Singh Rajewal, who was here for the third national convention of farmers’ organisations.

He said the committee formed under the chairmanship of Dr Ranjit Singh Ghuman in 2007 to study wheat and paddy crops from 1966 till 2007 stated that Rs 61,696 crore have been squeezed from Punjab by fixing low prices.

“Loan burden is increasing on farmers and resulting in suicides. Farmers are socially harassed by financial institutions and private money lenders, forcing them to commit suicide,” he said.

He claimed that loans had increased 20 times in the past seven years in Punjab and 80-87 per cent of the farmers were under debt.

The farmers who take the burden of the country had never got economic justice and the average income of farmers in Punjab was Rs 3,000 per hectare per month which was not enough to survive.

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਮਾਂ ਲੰਘਣ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਵਿੱਤ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਰੁਣ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮ ਭਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ। ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਾਏ ਗਏ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਉਗਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ (ਜੇਤਲੀ) ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਈ.ਡੀ. ਤੇ ਇਨਕਮ ਟੈਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਰਾਰੀ ਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੋ ਸਾਲ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਾਰ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਠੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲੜਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਣਾਇਕ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਕਾਬ ਕਰਨਗੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿੱਤ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਐਤਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਚ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਲਾਸਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਈ.ਡੀ. ਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ  ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣੀ ਕੱਢਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵੀ ਇਸਦਾ ਨੋਟਿਸ ਲਏਗੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ  ਈ.ਡੀ. ਤੇ ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਜਾਂਚ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਹੈ।
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਦੇ ਦਾਅਵਿਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕਿਰਿਆ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ (ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਵਿੱਤ ਮੰਤਰੀ) ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਜਾਇਜ਼ ਜਾਇਦਾਦਾਂ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਮਾਲਕੀ ਦੇ ਸਬੂਤ ਦੇਣ, ਨਾ ਕਿ ਚੋਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ, ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸਵਿੱਸ ਬੈਂਕ ਤੋਂ ਚੋਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਫਰਾਂਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਚੇ ਸਨ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਬਾਅਦ ’ਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ’ਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਬੂਤ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨਗੇ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ’ਤੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਟੈਕਸ ਅਦਾਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਸਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ’ਚ ਗੈਰ-ਲੋੜੀਂਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਤਿਹਾਰਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਖਰਚ ਕੇ  ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪੱਤਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ’ਚ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਫੇ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਤਿਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੁਜੀਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੀ ਦੁਰਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋੋ। ਇਹ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਖਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ 1984 ਦੇ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਮੰਗਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਤੇ ਨਿਊਜ਼ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਟ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਵਧੀਆ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਸ਼ਤਿਹਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਚੋਣਾਂ ’ਚ ਫਾਇਦਿਆਂ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਖਿੱਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੀ ਹਾਈਕਮਾਂਡ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਹੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦਿਹਾਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਹਲਕਾ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਚਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਹਰਮੇਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਟੌਹੜਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਟਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਯੂਥ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂ ਸਤਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੱਟੜਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਟੌਹੜਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਸ ਸੀ।
